fossil - a collaboration
Artist Janine Hilder makes art from found objects, much like fossil hunter Mary Anning.
Janine searches for discarded remnants of modern life at tourist town shorelines, roadside trash heaps and demolition sites.
Like a fossil hunter she assembles these objects in surprising ways to create character-driven sculptures. Janine has exhibited in Geneva, Paris, Sydney and Melbourne.
In collaboration, Catherine and Janine illustrated the art making process using imaginative storytelling techniques for the series Fossil. The complete Fossil series was exhibited at Omei Galley in NSW in 2022.
A collaboration such as this involves exploring concepts and ideas, making mistakes, having fun and ultimately producing a creative outcome that enriches all involved. That outcome could be a photobook, a gallery installation or the first step towards a live performance with digital imagery.
